Overview:

This role will focus on providing systems engineering and technical support to assist the sales team with closing new specification and on-air wins in the broadcast and mobile segments, supporting the successful promotion of Dolby products and technologies to Middle Eastern & African customers. Based in Dubai and operating at a technical level as part of a team of multi-skilled individuals, success will be reflected in ensuring that operators enjoy error free carriage of Dolby technologies across the entire programme chain from ingest to multiplex / service delivery. While there currently is a focus on traditional broadcast over the air, via satellite or cable, delivery over Internet and mobile networks is of increasing relevance.

The Technical Systems Engineer (TSE) will be acting as the primary “technical voice of the customer” within Dolby for assigned content creators, content aggregators and operators.

This position requires primarily broadcast industry experience to understand requirements at television networks and stations, and/or telecom operators; to recommend appropriate design solutions utilizing products and systems that incorporate Dolby technologies; and to assist customers during planning and implementation to assure successful deployment results.

This role also requires an in-depth working knowledge of audio and video technologies, related codecs and their integration into content creation and delivery systems.

The TSE will also regularly report on key trends, market conditions, customer feedback, competitive technologies, and roadblocks that will be encountered while engaging with customers.

Responsibilities:

MAIN DUTIES:
- Provide systems support to Dolby’s broadcast and telecom customers and related SIs: support HD and SD delivery via cable, satellite, terrestrial and IP in the use of Dolby Audio technologies (e.g. Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby E);
- Interface with operators and SIs on pre-sales discussions and issues of systems design, consultancy and final system implementation. Where necessary liaise also with system OEMs. Bring resulting information inhouse and share appropriately;
- Interface with engineering departments at customers and potential customers in defined broadcast and mobile market areas and applications. Establish and / or maintain relationships;
- Generate technical proposals to meet specific customer requirements and liaise between sales and marketing for major contracts, providing information on timescales, quantities, importance;
- Provide support and training for Multichannel Audio in Live Broadcast, Broadcast Production and Post Production facilities;
- Provide external systems training pertaining to Dolby technologies and Broadcast Multichannel sound mixing;
- Understand customer requirements, delivering technical presentations, technology demonstrations, and promoting the value proposition of Dolby Broadcast and Mobile technologies ecosystem to customers. Technical lead for sales-orientated technical presentations and demonstrations to customers’ technical staff and senior management;
- Interface with Dolby Engineering and Marketing to provide input and suggestions for new products and features, based on customer needs and competitive information. Leverage customer meetings to gather intelligence about customers’ end product plans, product requirements and sharing data with relevant internal Dolby teams;
- In conjunction with the rest of the Marketing group, evangelise Dolby technologies to the relevant markets; present Dolby and Dolby technologies to the industry and media at seminars and events.

Other responsibilities:
- Provide relevant resources to other members of the group on their tasks as appropriate;
*LIaise with other Dolby Laboratories offices where necessary;
- Attend and contribute to relevant internal meetings;
- Assist in tradeshows and events through planning and attendance as needed;
- Perform other ad hoc duties as required by management.

Qualifications:

Education, Abilities, and Experience Required:

Degree or equivalent in Science, Electronic Engineering, Music Technology, Computer Science or Information Technology

A thorough knowledge of digital TV broadcast systems end to end from ingest to home receiver, resulting from proven industry experience; and ideally also some exposure to mobile ecosystems;
- A thorough knowledge of technologies used, drivers and technology trends in broadcasting, post production and content delivery;
- Customer-focused with strong service orientation;
- Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills;
- In-depth knowledge of standard computer hardware and software will be expected as well as a thorough understanding of audio processing-specific software.

Skills:
- Self motivated, self assured person with aptitude to interface with personnel from highest to lowest levels of customer engineering organizations;
- Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential; written and verbal interactions with customers singly and in groups are a major part of the job;
- A proactive approach and the ability to work on own initiative or as a member of a small but dynamic team;
- Excellent communication skills in English; some Arabic communication skills would also be advantageous;
- Interest in music, audio/video production, recording engineering, broadcast engineering film audio, or acoustics desirable

PRACTICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Frequent international travel (approx. 25% on average) and a willingness to work

outside normal office hours, when required, is part of this job.
