Position Overview:
The Director, Legal Operations will lead a variety of the licensing and legal operations process improvement programs in the USA and internationally. Reporting to the Sr. Director of Licensing and Legal Operations, this role will partner with Dolby’s senior business, technology, legal and finance leaders to ensure that legal transactional matters are handled efficiently and effectively. Additionally, this role will lead the implementation of operational technology solutions and develop a deep understanding of the company’s business, strategies, processes, and technologies. This is a newly-created position at Dolby, so the successful candidate will enjoy the challenge of building a successful function from the ground up.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop and implement best in class legal operations systems, policies and processes to ensure maximum efficiency and alignment company-wide.
- Source, evaluate, test, implement and support technology solutions relevant to legal operations.
- As part of the foregoing, help lead design and implementation of a comprehensive contract lifecycle management system.
- Collaborate closely with, and develop training programs for, legal, finance, technology and business colleagues to ensure adoption of relevant policies and systems.
- Provide legal counsel, including negotiations and drafting support, on a variety of expense-side contracts, and help develop related forms and processes.
Qualifications:
- J.D. required; Top tier law school strongly preferred.
- At least 8 years of post-qualified experience, including 3 years in a legal operations role.
- At least 4 years for experience negotiating and drafting a broad range of legal agreements including technology licenses, professional and consulting services agreements, development agreements, purchase agreements, and confidentiality agreements.
- Deep knowledge of legal operations best practices at companies similarly-sized to Dolby.
- Experience working with a leading external vendor to implement a contract lifecycle management solution at a large company.
- Self-initiative and ability to work with minimum direction in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, often under tight deadlines.
- Superior Project Management experience and skills, with the ability to drive multiple projects and programs, and to quickly prioritize and resolve business issues.
- Extremely comfortable with technology. Able to play an active role in selecting, configuring, testing and explaining technology solutions.
- Builds constructive and effective relationships throughout the organization and understands how to work collaboratively across business units.
- Change Management – Can embrace change and has the ability to appeal to a variety of stakeholders to ensure cross-functional adoption of new tools and processes.
- Extremely high work quality and precision – able to resolve time sensitive issues with a high degree of precision and exhibit strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent knowledge of IT systems, including at least one leading contract lifecycle management system and Microsoft applications including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
- Ideal candidate will have demonstrated an ability to manage a fast-paced and growing legal department’s operations needs.
