Job Summary:
The staff test infrastructure engineer is part of a global team responsible for developing tools, infrastructure and software to support broad global and reusable test infrastructure leveraged by multiple engineering teams at Dolby.
The position is responsible for introducing and supporting new tools developed globally to his/her local stakeholders and communicate status and delivery to the Global Test Infrastructure team. This collaboration unifies the direction and challenges taken by the local test teams, to avoid duplication of effort globally across test teams and within the GTI team.
The Global Test Infrastructure Team builds test infrastructure with proven open source technologies, and provides integration layers and tools specific to Dolby’s domain. Therefore, the candidate must be aware of advancements in the open source community in order to propose them, lead proof of concepts (pilots), coordinate with users of the tools and finally deploy them.
This position requires skill in the area of software designs, software development, system integration testing and documentation of the Global Test Infrastructure’s deliverables and internal tools.
The position requires a versatile and curious mind, always willing to explore new areas and draw parallels between technologies. Choices of technologies and languages for a particular implementation should be based on the deliverable to accomplish (no “one language fits all” even though the primary languages used in GTI are PHP and Python).
Responsibilities:
Job Functions and Competencies
- Leads and owns the development effort and roll out implementation of web services built on the web application framework for test management applications and integration
- Manages ongoing server setup and backups for web-based requirements and test-management applications.
- Develops integration APIs, client tools and services (SOAP, REST, for example) for consumption by other engineering applications and tools used by Dolby QA and Development teams. Also derives unit tests of new enhancements and fixes.
- Collaborates and contributes technical design and development integration services with test engineers and test automation infrastructure team.
- Participates and contributes design and code with members of test automation infrastructure team.
- Reviews system and application usage and make recommendations on process and functional use of web applications.
- Reviews and keeps up-to-date on industry trends and new emerging technologies and their potential use within Dolby quality management and testing.
Qualifications:
Required
- LAMP-style PHP Software and Web Development 5+ years
- Critical problem-solving and thinking skills applied to software development and usage of applications by users.
- Demonstrated experiment MVC-style development leveraging Symfony and Doctrine ORM integration
- SOAP and REST services development in PHP and/or Python
- Deployment and management of Linux web applications servers in a global corporate environment.
- Strong clear communication skill both with technical staff and non-technical end-users of applications.
- Solid Software development methodology using version control systems and producing excellent technical documentation (samples strongly encouraged) and development of own unit tests.
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science or similar.
Recommended Skills Etc
- Development and use of test scripts in Python and Py.Test in testing software and hardware.
- Web services integration development of Python clients (suds, SOAPpy or other)
- User-story and requirements capture with end-users of web applications.
- Self-starter and ability to communicate with end-users outside of technical code implementation details to discover new features and requirements.
- Endless curiosity to learn new skills and techniques.
- Previous domain experience implementing and using applications used within the software development lifecycle (Bug tracking, Test management, Code management)
- Experience with Sphinx and ReST
- Use of Perforce
